Bucharest is in the southeast of Romania near the Bulgarian border. Not only is Bucharest Romania's capital city, but it is also the largest city in Romania. Bucharest is sometimes called the Paris of the east because of its architecture. It is also known for its parks, museums, and nightlife scene.

1. Scovergi
Scovergăria Micăi
Scovergăria Micăi is a traditional Romanian bakery.
We recommend going there to try a popular Bucharest street food called scovergi. It is fried dough with lots of options for toppings.
We went with a savory scovergi topped with garlic, cheese, and sour cream. Scovergi is the perfect street food because you can eat it while on the go, and it is affordable.
Scovergi is 12.95 RON ($2.69).
2. Mici
Caru' cu bere (the Beer Wagon)
Caru' cu bere is a Romanian restaurant that has beautiful stained glass windows and serves many traditional Romanian dishes.
They also have Romanian folk dancing at 7:30 pm.
While here, we recommend the mici with fries and mustard dipping sauce. Mici is case-less sausages.
We also recommend their home-brewed beer.
Our meal at Caru' cu bere was 132 RON ($27.42).
3 & 4. Sarmale and Mămăligă
Manuc's Inn (Hanul lui Manuc)
Manuc's Inn is the oldest hotel in Bucharest. It also houses a traditional Romanian restaurant with a large terrace and plenty of Romanian dishes.
Here we highly recommend the sarmale with a side of mămăligă.
Sarmale is the Romanian national dish. It is stuffed cabbage rolls that come with a side of mămăligă.
Mămăligă is the Romanian version of polenta which is boiled cornmeal.
5. Papanași
Manuc's Inn (Hanul lui Manuc)
Papanași is a traditional Romanian pastry. It is shaped like a doughnut and topped with blueberries and sour cream.
Our meal at Manuc’s Inn was 115 RON ($23.89).
6. Romanian Wine
Abel’s Wine Bar
Romania is one of the world’s largest producers of wine, so be sure to try some if you are in Bucharest.
At Abel’s Wine Bar, the host will introduce you to different wines and give you some history about the wine also.
The wine bar is cozy and a fantastic place to sample Romanian wines.
One glass of wine is 22 RON ($4.57).
